Breaking the Cycle
We all encounter things that bring us to our knees. Sooner or later a situation arises in which we feel completely helpless. In Mark’s Gospel, there is a beautiful story about a man who brought his possessed boy to Jesus for healing. The father explained that he had brought his son to Jesus’ disciples but they were unable to heal him, even though they had been able to heal many others with similar afflictions. Jesus arrived at this scene, he rebuked the unclean spirit, ordering it to come out of the boy, and the child was cured. We all have demons that we need Jesus to cast out. Breaking the cycle of self-sabotage and self-destructive ways or we can turn to God and ask for help. We all have cycles of thought or behavior that need to be broken. We have all tried to break these cycles over and over again, and failed over and over again. Any type of inner slavery limits our ability to love ourselves, to love God, and to love others. God wants to strengthen you will each day. Breaking down the destructive cycles in our lives is never easy. It is not something we can do on our own. We need the encouragement and prayers of the people around us, and we need to grace of God. When we face these cycles of self-sabotage and destruction we very quickly become convinced that there is such a thing as the grace of God, and that we need it.
