How To Avoid Regret
How to stop regretting career decisions?
First, regret is a natural part of life — so it’s okay.
Here are 3 pieces of advice from the heart.
1. We can’t change our past, right?
Think about that for a second.
Do you know how many people dwell on their past?
I understand thinking about the future — I do it a lot.
But I don’t get why people overthink the past.
Thinking about the past makes no sense.
Unless we’re learning something from it.
So, the first ingredient is:
→ Radical Acceptance
Just accept that you can’t change the past.
We can’t move forward if we don’t accept it.
2. Thinking about the past makes no sense unless…
Unless we learn from it.
That’s why I love talking to myself out loud.
It’s my way of learning from my past.
And when I say ‘my past,’ I’m really just talking about the days before.
So, try to use regret as a learning tool.
You know what’s funny?
When you start learning from your regrets, you stop having as many regrets.
Honestly, I don’t have any regrets.
Why?
Not because I’m special.
But because I learn as much as possible from what’s happening in my life.
So, I’m able to find the good in almost everything.
And we don’t regret the good things, right?
3. Tell me, which question do you prefer?
This one:
→ “What should I have done?”
Or this one:
→ “What can I do with now?”
The second one, right?
Great! Me too!
Why?
Because one of the best ways to deal with regret is:
→ Focus on the present moment
→ Set a goal that motivates you
This helps in 2 ways:
→ It keeps you focused on what’s ahead
→ It helps you stop dwelling on what’s behind
