Remember forgiveness is a process

Some theologians tell us that Jesus came to a gradual recognition, a gradual awareness, of who He was. We experience this in our own lives in that as we mature through life we get a deeper and clearer idea of who we are and the person we are called to be. We get a clearer idea of the reality surrounding us. When we look at forgiveness, I think we have to look at it in a natural way and say that forgiveness is a process. It is an ongoing inner process toward wholeness. Just as when we begin school at an early age and are striving for the goal of graduation from school, so when we begin our process of forgiveness we are striving for the goal of wholeness. Each year in school, each grade, brings us closer to our goal. I think that as we engage our whole being in the pursuit of forgiveness, we come to a deeper and clearer idea of what forgiveness is and a deeper possession of forgiveness, so that more and more of our being is touched, healed, cleansed through forgiveness.
