Imposter Syndrome Isn’t Just A Trait

It’s a state of mind.

A state of mind that shifts depending on the situation.
Maybe it’s starting a new role.
Maybe it’s tackling a tough project.
Or maybe it’s walking into a room full of people who seem to have it all figured out.

But here’s the thing:

These feelings? They’re shaped by more than just what’s inside us.
The environment plays a big part too.
So, what if beating imposter syndrome wasn’t just about “fixing” ourselves?
What if it also meant shaping the space around us?

Here are 3 ways to rethink your environment:

1. Surround yourself with support

The people around us? They matter so much.

Here’s what you can do:
→    Spot one or two people who make you feel good

Maybe it’s a colleague who’s got your back.
Maybe it’s a friend who lifts you up.
Spend more time with them.
And for those people who drain your energy?
Step back.
Or at least, limit how much time you give them.
Honestly, I love being around people (thanks, Mum’s Italian DNA!)
But loving people doesn’t mean spending time with everyone.
Right?

Let’s choose the ones who make us feel strong.

2. Shift the narrative

High-pressure spaces can make anyone feel small.
But the next time you feel like you don’t belong?

Try this:
→    Tell yourself, “I’m here because I bring something unique.”

Because it’s true.
It’s all about perspective.
Flip the story you’re telling yourself, and see what changes.

3. Make the space yours

Your workspace isn’t just a desk — it’s part of your mindset.

Try this:
→    Declutter it. Rearrange it. Add something that feels you.

Maybe it’s a photo that makes you smile.
Maybe it’s a plant that brings life to the space.
Personally, I thrive in spaces that feel calm and Zen-like.
What about you?

Now, before you go, let’s try something:
1.    Write down a time you felt imposter syndrome.
2.    Think about the space — what about it made you feel that way?
3.    Now, brainstorm one change you can make.
