How to Build the 4 Types of Resilience
How to build resilience at work?
Focusing on our strengths is always a great move!
So let’s try this tool:
→ Strengths-Based Approach
It helps build resilience by focusing on what we do best.
Let’s see how to use it — and check out one of my strengths
1. First, we need to figure out our strengths.
So, take a moment to think about what you’re good at.
Ask yourself:
→ What tasks at work do I find easy?
→ What do my coworkers say I excel at?
→ When do I feel most confident in my job?
Just think about it.
One strength could be:
→ A knack for simplifying complex stuff
Like me
Who loves complexity, anyway?
2. Now, jot down a list of your strengths.
Aim for at least five.
For example:
→ Simplifying complex concepts
→ Empathetic communication
→ Good organization
→ Team collaboration
→ Creative thinking
3. Now, think back to a time when you faced a challenge at work.
Ask yourself:
→ What strengths did I use to overcome it?
Now your question is:
→ Why should I ask myself that question?
Because reflecting on past successes shows how capable you are.
You know what I mean?
Think about when your team had to present a complex proposal to a client.
Do you remember how you simplified complex concepts?
It’s just an example — don’t worry
4. Okay! You’ve identified your strengths.
And you’ve also reflected back.
Now what?
Set a small goal that involves using one or more of your strengths.
Think about a current challenge at work.
Ask yourself:
→ How can my strengths help me deal with it?
For example, let’s say you’re working on a complex project.
And let’s say the project requires a lot of creativity.
Well, ask yourself:
→ How can I leverage my ability to simplify complex stuff?
→ How can I leverage my creative thinking?
Just put yourself in a position to use your strengths.
5. Self-reflection and resilience go hand in hand, right?
“Um, yeah!”
Great!
So, after leveraging your strengths, take a moment to reflect.
Ask yourself:
→ How did using my strengths help me overcome the challenge?
→ What did I learn about myself in the process?
And let’s remember:
→ There is no resilience without self-reflection
