How to Build Resilience
Today I wanna share a special exercise with you.
It’s all about laughing.
“Laughing…?”
Yep, laughing!
Studies show that laughing boosts resilience.
The more positive emotions we feel daily, the more resilience we build.
Let’s dive into the exercise!
1. First, set aside a 10-minute slot each day for the next 30 days.
For example:
→ 8:30 PM – 8:40 PM, every day.
Do we have 10 minutes a day for our resilience?
2. Alright! In those 10 minutes, do this:
→ Jot down three of the funniest things you experienced that day
You might have experienced them.
Or seen them.
Or heard them.
It doesn’t matter — just write them down.
For example, three funny things could be:
→ Watched a funny video on YouTube
→ Saw something funny my colleague did
→ Saw a funny situation on the train between two people
Now, you might be wondering:
→ What if I didn’t experience anything funny?
No worries! Just do this:
→ Go on YouTube
→ Watch three funny videos
3. Okay! You’ve written down WHAT made you laugh.
Now, for each of those things, jot down HOW it made you feel.
For example:
→ It made me feel joyful
→ It made me feel curious
→ It made me feel carefree
4. Now, for each of those things, jot down WHY you found them funny.
For example:
→ It was funny because I realized how…
→ It was funny because it’s incredible how much…
→ It was funny because those two people really thought that…
Just jot down three funny things at the end of your day.
It’s like writing down three things you’re grateful for each day.
By doing this:
→ You’ll create a new positive habit in your life
→ You’ll soak up positive emotions before bed
→ And of course, you’ll build resilience
Resilience and positive emotions go hand in hand.
There’s a reason why laughter yoga works wonders for our wellbeing.
