7 Habits Of The Athlete Mindset

How to overcome self-doubt?

What I learned from sports is this:
→    To overcome self-doubt, you don’t have to just listen to your voice.

You need to talk to it — out loud.
Let me explain in 3 steps.
Maybe you wanna try it.

1. So, self-doubt is when we say to ourselves things like:
→    What if I fail?
→    I’ll never succeed
→    I’m not good enough
Right?
So, first thing, try to be aware of the phrases you say to yourself.

During the day, when you find yourself self-doubting, do this:
→    Grab your phone’s notes
→    And write down those negative phrases

2.    Alright! Now you can take a cue from athletes.
Do you know what athletes do to deal with self-doubt?
They replace those negative phrases with 3 main types of positive phrases.
In short, they treat themselves like friends.

Those 3 types are:
→    Supportive phrases
→    Instructional phrases
→    Powerful questions

For example, supportive phrases are like:
→    You got this!
→    Keep pushing!
→    You’re number 1!

Instructional phrases are like:
→    Do another set!
→    Listen to your gut!
→    Take a deep breath!

Powerful questions are like:
→    How can you face this challenge?
→    What can you learn from this mistake?
→    What do you think is the best way to…?
So, what you can do?

Simple, turn your “negative phrases” into:
→    A supportive phrase
→    An instructional phrase
→    Or a powerful question

For example, imagine your negative phrase is this:
→    “I’m not good enough”

What you can do is turn it into this:
→    “I’m capable and destined for greatness”
Got it?
And remember this:
→    Your phrases need to be in the second person.

What do I mean?

I mean this:
→    Use “you”, not “I”

So, your phrase won’t be:
→    I deserve it!

Your phrase will be:
→    You deserve it!
This way you keep an “emotional distance” from your person.

3.    Now what?
Well, you just need to repeat those new phrases out loud daily.

For example:
→    As part of your morning routine
→    Or at specific moments during the day, when you need it.

This is how you can overcome self-doubt and cultivate an athlete mindset.
