How do I avoid the side effects of sitting all day?

Here’s the tool I use:

Let me break down my method into 3 steps.
This way you can use it — or take a hint from it.

1.   First off, I work in 50-minute slots.
And every 50 minutes I take a 10-minute break.

So my day is structured like this:
→    50 minutes deep work
→    10 minutes break

This is for 12 times.

2.    In the last 2 minutes of each break, I run in place.
Basically, I grab my iPhone (in airplane mode) and set a 2-minute timer.
During these 2 minutes, I simply “run in place”.
Imagine running but staying in the same spot.

It’s about 250 paces per slot.

3.    Now your question is: “Why do you do that?”
Simple, because I need to move my body.
“Uhm, okay, and why do you need to move your body?”


Here are the 6 principal reasons:
→    I improve my posture (by moving my whole body)
→    I train my heart (my heart rate increases from 60 to 130 every hour)
→    I train my body (it’s about 20 minutes running per day, about 3000 paces)
→    I face the next 50-minute slot with high energy and focus (thanks to the increased heart rate)
→    I get 2 minutes of meditation (it forces me to stay in the present)
→    I improve my self-esteem and self-discipline (it’s a real routine).
