3 Powerful Steps to Stay Consistent
How to stay consistent with your goals?
For me, 3 key ingredients are:
→ Your why
→ Your habits
→ Your progress
Let me share my LinkedIn journey with you.
Just to give you an example of consistency.
I’ll break it down into 4 steps.
1. So, in September 2023 I said:
→ You know what, I wanna build a global wellbeing community
Which, for me, means:
→ Bringing as much value as possible based on my experience.
→ Doing it in my style — pretty authentic.
All this DAILY.
So, consistency is key.
On October 2, 2023, I posted my first content.
Now, let me tell you how I stay consistent through:
→ My why
→ My habits
→ My progress
2. “My why”
So, my personal and professional why is this:
→ Building a more inclusive world by spreading wellbeing globally
To stay consistent, every time I need to post, I associate:
→ Posting (the thing I need to do)
with
→ My why
That association just motivates me.
It’s easier to be consistent when you associate:
→ What you need to do
with
→ Your why
3. “My habits”
To stay consistent, I had to create a habit.
Which habit?
Simple — Every day at 5:00 AM, I write a post.
It’s the first thing I do each day.
After my morning routine, I spend 20-30 minutes writing my posts.
“Even on Sundays?”
Yep! Consistency doesn’t go on vacation.
But it’s not a problem when you associate it with your why, right? 🙂
So yes, to stay consistent, habits give us a hand.
My advice?
Build a habit around what you need to do.
4. “My progress”
Every day, I spend 5 minutes reflecting on my progress.
Well, actually, I don’t “reflect.”
I just talk out loud to myself.
I simply try to extrapolate some daily lessons.
This “acknowledgment of my progress” helps me stay motivated.
And it helps me improve daily too — I hope 🙂
Now your question is:
→ “Do you track your progress, Matty?”
Um, actually, no — not right now.
But it’s something I did in the first few months.
In the beginning, I used to track almost everything.
And on Sundays, I used to look back and see my progress.
Seeing my progress kept me motivated.
Now, I just talk to myself out loud.
But if I had to give you advice, I’d say track your progress.
So, to recap, to stay consistent:
→ Align what you need to do with your why
→ Create a habit around what you need to do
→ Track your progress or at least be aware of it (ideally daily).
