24 Rest Effects On The Body

How do I really rest?
Here are 6 tools I use every day:
(I’m gonna break them down into 6 types of rest)

1.    Mental Rest
What do I do for my mental rest?
Well, every day I stay 11 hours without technology.

Meaning my eyes don’t look at screens for 11 hours:
→    2 hours before bedtime   +
→    8 hours sleeping   +
→    1 hour morning routine
Total: 11 hours without tech.

2.    Creative Rest
What do I do for my creative rest?
Let’s start with this: I work in 50-minute slots.
Every 50 minutes I have a 10-minute break.

During these 10 minutes, I do this:
→       Spend 2 minutes running in place while looking at nature outside the window.

I repeat this 12 times per day.
Meaning my eyes look at nature 24 minutes a day.
Nature is my favorite “creativity tool”.
I literally had the idea for this post yesterday at 12:00 while looking at the sky.
That’s why I consider rest part of my work.
Are you with me?

3.    Physical Rest
What do I do for my physical rest?
Here’s simple: I just sleep 8 hours per day.
“7 days per week?”

Yep! 7 days per week!

It makes no sense
→    sleeping 5 hours Monday to Friday
→    and then sleeping 10 hours Saturday and Sunday
Right?

4.    Emotional Rest
What do I do for my emotional rest?
Well, this is where I meet my boundaries.
I like the word “yes”.
But I also like the word “no”.

For my emotional rest I just do this:
→    I set boundaries and don’t judge myself when I say no.

5.    Spiritual Rest
What do I do for my spiritual rest?
Simple, “Meditation + Gratitude”.

It takes me about 22 minutes a day, during my morning routine:
→    20 minutes Zazen (meditation)
→    2 minutes Gratitude

6.    Active Rest
What do I do for my active rest?

You know, it’s funny.
→   Did you know many people think that exercise is not a kind of rest?

They literally think the opposite.
It’s funny, right?
Well, my second home is the gym.
I can’t live without it.
And it’s probably the most impactful tool for me.
It’s the only tool I’ve always brought with me — for more than 15 years now.
