Discomfort

If you’re not in the habit of spending time by yourself, it may feel awkward and uncomfortable at first. It can be hard to be alone with your thoughts. You might feel like you’re not achieving anything or you don’t know what to do with yourself. You might feel like there’s no obvious benefit to it. To get used to the feeling of being alone, we must challenge ourselves, first in the small ways I described in the Solo Audit, but also in larger, more immersive ways. Knowing more about ourselves and what we enjoy helps us feel comfortable in solitude. We’ll be more willing to spend time pursuing our interests without needing the safety net of a companion. The activities you choose and what you learn about yourself from those activities will expand your self-awareness and help you make the most of the time you spend alone.
