Everyone Is Thinking About What I’m Doing
I was a nerd growing up. I mean, I’m a nerd now, but I like that part of me in a way I didn’t embrace as a middle schooler. Middle school sucks for a nerd. When you’re trying to survive middle school as a bizarrely tall, freakishly skinny, student, fitting in and finding a crew is a must. I did all the things I thought might impress my first crush. I was going to learn his about his extra curricular activities and made small talk. I had done all the work and played all the cards right, but when it was time to close the deal and seal this, I panicked. I was mortified. How could I salvage this? The next day, I made my way to him to try and explain myself. As I stood there, sheepishly looking for a sign that I didn’t blow my chance, he gave me a look and said, “What’s your name again?” OUCH! There’s the gift that will serve you even if you’re not in school looking love-nobody is thinking about you. They’re thinking about themselves.
