Let Go Of Guilt

I wrote this from the perspective of when bad things or hard times or crisis happens to us-since that is the experience I am having. But I’ve realized in the season that I find myself currently, that there is an entirely different perspective I haven’t taken into account. What if your world shatters, not because of something out of your control, but because you broke it? What if you aren’t just drowning in pain-what fi you’re the one who caused the pain in the first place? What if guilt is the biggest form of suffering you now endure, and something you can’t escape because the shame of your actions is eating you alive? Maybe you feel guilty because you’ve deeply wronged someone. Maybe you cheated. Maybe you treated someone unfairly. Maybe you bullied. Maybe you lied. Maybe you used. Maybe you abandoned. Maybe you destroyed their faith and their trust in you again and again. I can’t know exactly what it is that you did or how specifically you hurt them but here’s what I do know- if you feel guilt and shame about it now, and you’re facing the reality that you did something wrong even though that feeling is extremely uncomfortable, it means you’re trying. You may never receive forgiveness from the person or people you hurt, but you can do the work to forgive yourself.
